LCDR McGuiness
Commanding Officer

Lieutenant-Commander Joseph C. McGuiness is the Commanding Officer of the Bristol Bay. He is a 12-year veteran of the Coast Guard and a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

He has been assigned to the Bristol Bay since July of 1997. Typically, Coast Guard Officers rotate on three-year tours, alternating between shipboard and shoreside duties.

Executive Officer
USCGC Bristol Bay

Lieutenant Alan Birch is the Executive Officer of the Bristol Bay. He became a commisioned officer in the Coast Guard after working his way up through the enlisted ranks. Such officers are known as "mustangs" in the Coast Guard.

He has been assigned to the Bristol Bay for two years.
