The winter of 1997-1998 brought unusually mild weather to the Great Lakes, relieving the USCGC Mackinaw from her usual duties of icebreaking. In January of 1998, she made a rare appearance in Detroit, where she visited Coast Guard Base Group Detroit for almost two weeks.
Come aboard for a tour of the Mackinaw, the largest Coast Guard ship on
the Great Lakes.
