Masbama - Didn't ask. Opportunity knocked with the open dumpster. Would have been a major project for somebody. And fiberglass is not the most popular dinghy in Alaska. Aluminum much better for rocky beaches.

Alaskan Squall - The End
With sadness and relief, the 22 year effort to dry out the 1968 Squall in the garage is over. I gave up. She started life as a rowing Squall and I found her in 2002 as a mailbox in Thane, Alaska weighing 484 pounds. At her last weigh in last July she was down to 159 pounds. But time and age (mine) s...

We always had a new 2-pack fire extinguisher pack from Costco or an old one to teach the kids. Small gas fire in a tin can, let the kids put it out. Save your old flares as backup. Your old extinguishers and VDS have value to YOU.

It took 4 of us to wrestle the Squall into the garage. An awkward shape to drag in and lift up. Fighting weight should be about 125 for the rowing model. I think the sailing model had some extra gear (centerboard) that added weight. On the down side, rebuilding will add a bit more weight with fillin...

When I had the 1990 Revenge 22 - W.T. we had a humpback swim underneath while trolling, could see it go by.
We have a resident population of humpbacks that stay here year round.

How did "Whaler" get into the name? Whales, of course.
Yesterday afternoon 10 miles south of Juneau, AK. Cries of "Thar she blows!", but no whales to harpoon, only silver (Coho) salmon to catch. That hatch is 28-1/2 wide.

Re: Alaskan Squall - 17 years of drying out
New SQUAL hull weighs about 125-lbs.
I likely should have added the weight of seats and hardware back in, maybe another 10 to 12-lbs, so likely closer to 185-lbs.
So 185 - 125 = 60-lbs—a smaller kid. Anyway, I'll keep drying for a few more years.
Good luck with your project.

Alaskan Squall - 17 years of drying out
The drying-out process started in 2002 when I found a 1968 Boston Whaler Squall being used as a mailbox in Thane, Alaska, a bit southeast of Juneau. After more reading and looking...
The instrument itself must have 12V power (the chartplotter and the radar) AND the BACKBONE needs a SEPARATE 12 volt power source. Is that correct?
So before, I had the chartplotter & radar "plugged: in, now I need a source for the backbone.
