In later years (after c.1990) I understand the green tank wire was connected to the battery negative by the factory. My 1986 Outrage 18 did not have the transom electrode so I made my connection there.

I used beveled head Robertson stainless screws instead of rivets for this, bedded with 3M 4200, after drilling new holes. The engine choke control was often engaged by pushing the ignition key in while the starter is engaged. If your ignition key switch can be pushed inward and springs back out, that is the "choke."

How many hours on your 2006 Yama/Merc? I’d be cleaning it up unless it is burning oil like a 2 stroke? Not familiar with that particular outboard but the. Yama/Mercs generally speaking were very good on fuel and dependable. Likely worth a fair amount if you want to sell it in the current market.

If these OMC electric shifts date back to the 1970's (from what I read 1972 or 197373 or to 1978 for sterndrives) it is impressive that Mercury still notes this on gear oil being sold in 2022.

Try using a heat gun and a plastic scraper to remove the bed-liner material. Try a small spot to see how much work it is, and to discover what the surface underneath is like. That should get rid of the heavy stuff. A paint thinner would likely remove what’s left after the heat gun.
