I raised the F70 engine mounting height on my boat based upon your experience.
I would love to have a jack plate but as a recent retiree, I have become more frugal.
I will post results after further testing and possibly a re-pitch of my SCD3 propeller.

I purchased from vortexdirect.com. It was important to me to have a stainless steel frame. The top is nice but may not be the same quality as a Mills' Flying Top.

A few years ago I purchased a Bimini top for my 1985 15 Sport. I was reluctant to drill into the gunwale so I searched online and found these fittings.
I replaced the pin that held the ball with a machined screw. So far, it has held up well.

The boat under discussion is a very nice setup. Thanks for sharing. PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT BOAT My 1985 SPORT 15 with Yamaha F70 produces 9.6-MPG if I keep engine speeds below 4,800-RPM. The propeller is a PowerTech SCD-3, 17-pitch. The engine mounting height is two-holes-up from lowest position.

I own a 1986 15’ Sport. I mounted a bimini but didn’t drill into the gunwales. I used a ball mount on the middle side rail vertical supports. It works great. I did have to drill for the strap mounts but not the base.

I spent 38 years in the pipeline industry. We cut stainless tubing daily with tubing cutters. You won’t have a problem with a tubing cutter from Lowe’s or Home Depot.

El Rollo: I ended up purchasing a SCD3 in 17-pitch, but haven’t been able to test it yet. My wife and I took a ride but she gets nervous when the boat gets over about 35-MPH . My engine is mounted at two-holes-up. I think I need to raise the engine one more hole. I’ll post again after further testing.

If worried about the weight, consider the Yamaha F70 which is 253-lbs. An increase of 100-lbs is a lot for only an additional 5-HP.

Recently I replaced the rub rail on my 1985 Sport 15. The job was not bad. The rub rail was about $260 from Specialty Marine and fits 13 through 17 classic hulls. I’m not sure how you would splice it and not have an obvious repair showing. Good luck

That’s good information but when I look it up, the blue label is Cleaner Wax. The green label is the Restorer Wax. Are you using the cleaner wax?
