FS: Dual OMC Top-mount Remote Shift-Throttle Control
For sale: an OMC Dual engine top-mount remote shift and throttle control. This control is SystemCheck compatible (uses the MWS wiring harness). I bought it new about 10 years ago for a project and it has lived in a box since. It is perfect for use on boats with OMC or Evinrude twin outboards, or cou...

Re: 1986 OUTRAGE 18 Replace Deck with PVC Sheet; New Fuel Tank
From a post in October 2019, about 13-months ago: I saw GAMBLER’s deck, and though beautiful, eventually it will rot from the inside if the tank is in foam. If I had to do [the rebuild of GAMBLER] again, I would have used NidaCore or some other synthetic material under the teak. I think [the deck on...

Re: The Abel Buell Map of the United States
I find it also interesting what Abel Buell chose to include and leave off in his map. For instance, Sault Ste Marie, Michigan (and Canada) were clearly already an important point of commerce in the fur trade at this point. Sault Ste Marie Michigan was founded in 1668. And the indigenous peoples of t...

When "summer" camp starts in the Eastern UP (April 29), the bay is usually just a few weeks ice-free. Three years ago, there was still ice on the shallow parts of the bay when we began giving "swim tests" so students could sail our Sunfish. Only the hardiest of college students g...

Re: Mid-Michigan Best Fuel Stop
Holiday in Gaylord also has ethanol free fuel, however, it is not convenient. If you're heading back into Canada via Sault Ste. Marie, the Holiday on the Business Spur in Soo Michigan has ethanol free fuel at every pump for your buying pleasure before you enter Canada. It's a bit off the highway - p...

Re: Buying new trailer: Single v. Tandem
Butch - Interesting. I agree on the tire scubbing during tight turns (backing). I have found that backing a tandem is easier because it is less likely to turn quickly, which allows you more time to make minute adjustments at the steering wheel than with a single. I guess it's personal preference. I ...

Re: Buying new trailer: Single v. Tandem
All things being equal, I would choose a tandem trailer over a single axle trailer. The biggest reasons include additional safety and security on the roadway should you have a blowout on one side, a more predictable tow, and much better backing characteristics. The drawbacks include the additional c...

While cruising on Indian River (N. Michigan) this weekend, I continued to describe and inform my fiancee on the finer points of all things Whaler - pointing out boats, differences, etc. I came across one that was partially obscured in it's boatwell and said "there's a newer cabin model - a Conq...

Wave Height Estimation; Differences Between Waves on Various Bodies of Water
Let's tackle the differences in waves on different bodies of water first, as it's easiest: A four-foot high wave on an inland lake or small body of water can generally only be developed under pretty harsh wind conditions--meaning very closely stacked waves with steep faces, probably--almost surely--...

Re: 25 Outrage – Drain for Fuel Tank Area
From Jeff's photographs it looks like it may be possible to install a garboard drain and plug through the lower part of the aft fuel tank cavity bulkhead. It would be an easier less costly way to get rid of water in the fuel tank cavity though not necessarily as effective as Jeff's solution. Drains...

Re: 1983 Outrage 25 repower
I have a 1983 25' Outrage Cuddy. The boat had twin 130 HP 2-strokes when I bought it. I felt that the power was adequate, but barely. The hull wants more HP, although I could get it up on plane with a single 130 without real trouble. I felt the top end speed was lacking (mid 30's). That said, I also...

I mentioned my Outrage Cuddy merely to illustrate that Boston Whaler was indeed making the 25' Hull in 1983. I did not intend to indicate that you might have the Cuddy version of this hull.

Reference: Secondary Location for HIN on c. 2001 13' Sport Hulls
I was de-rigging one of our 2001 13' Sport boats yesterday to perform a powerplant transplant. The replacement engine is a different make, so it required a complete de-rig. When I removed the throttle control box at the helm, I noticed that there is a secondary HIN location on these hulls. Not sure ...

Re: Re-finishing Mahogany
You can start the finish after 150 grit or 180 grit sanding. Be sure to wipe the board down with a tack cloth before adding finish. Then 220 grit between coats if you let it cure (see instructions on the can). 220 grit before the final topcoat. Since you've taken it down to bare wood, you will want ...

Re: 1986 Outrage 18 Bow Cleat Removal
The most important tool you'll use is patience. On the successful removal attempt from my 25, I let penetrating oil work on the threads for over a week. Also, make certain you have an appropriately sized driver bit for the task. An undersized bit will strip the screw head more quickly. I definitely ...

Re: Transom weight for an old 17
We have a 2006 Mercury 90 HP fourstroke on a 1972 Katama at camp. It is terrible. I'm currently looking for a classic 21' Outrage to hang that motor on, and considering moving our 50 HP Honda to the Katama from the pontoon boat it is currently on. 400 LBS is too much weight on the transom - wet feet...

Re: 1984 Outrage 25: Adding Hermco Bracket
Russell - Looks great! I'd consider fully enclosing the transom if you can still tilt the motors clear. If not, you should raise it at least 5 inches. I'm actually planning to start that modification to my 25 this summer - raising the transom 5 inches and then mounting the "new" 200 HP Yam...

What is the max/recommended file size for photos? Looks like it won't resize the file automatically (i.e. if you try to dump a huge photo file it won't re-size it, it just rejects the image as too large.
