Re: 1974 SPORT Re-power with Short Shaft or Long Shaft Engine
If you have an old Boston Whaler requiring a 15-inch or short shaft engine, then I think you must have a pre-1972 13 footer. If so then my experiences with my 1971 Sourpuss 13 might be relevant. When I bought the 1971 Sourpuss 13 boat back in the [1990's], it came with a 1978 Johnson 35-HP engine a ...

Re: 1976 OUTRAGE 19 Re-power
I find myself doing my own analysis/comparison of the Suzuki df140 and df150/175 for my own repower. Suzuki seems to have an excellent reputation. I have never owned or operated either of these motors so there's that. Consider that the df140 is a 125 cubic inch motor. It is a souped up version of th...

Re: Tesla Boat Trailer Towing
We need to lower our expectations.
[Moderator's note. I am not sure what expectations are being cited, but perhaps the intention is to suggest boaters should lower their expectations for electric vehicle range when towing heavy trailers].

Re: Tesla Boat Trailer Towing
My friend/neighbor recently bought a Rivian truck. Its the fancy pants AWD model with a motor on each wheel resulting in over 800hp. Range is advertised as 300 miles or so. My friend says he loves it and regularly commutes 200 miles between MA and ME. Then last spring he attempted to tow his ski boa...

Re: 1978 Outrage19 with Mercruiser 470
Its confirmed. Yes the rub rail was red. And yes a new red one will look fantastic. Of course now I will also have to freshen the whaler decals etc etc!

Re: 1978 Outrage19 with Mercruiser 470
Jim, In addition to being a sterndrive, the 470 is a controversial one. It has no lack of haters right or wrong. advocates say it is a quiet efficient torque monster. Detractors say it is an inherently unreliable design and expensive to repair. I guess I will find out. I just had the motor rebuilt. ...

Re: 1978 Outrage19 with Mercruiser 470
Jim, Your guess is as good as mine as to what the pink line was about. I think the winch is too high on the trailer and is putting undo stress on the bow eye. Perhaps it was to keep bow from bouncing due to poor winch placement? In any case I am going to adjust winch. Will use captions from now on. ...

Re: 1978 Outrage19 with Mercruiser 470
The saddle tanks in the Outrage appear to be original. They are dated 10/76 which seems plausible for a 1978 model year. One tank was patched with a layer of fiberglass along the bottom 2 inches. I found out why when I filled both tanks with a mixture of muriatic acid and water and left to soak over...

1978 Outrage19 with Mercruiser 470
Last summer I bought a classic whaler. A total project. Complete except no ignition key which was probably intentional so I wouldn't notice all the missing teeth on the ring gear. Below is a picture taken when I first got her home. In the background is a 1971 Sourpuss I've owned for over 25 years. I...
