This is the charge oil. What confuses me more is why the larger two cylinder motors need that shield but the smaller ones don't. You would think any benefit would be applicable to all models.

I took the entire timing plate off. The charge coil has definitely melted and the ohm meter test says open circuit. The trigger coil is OK and the lighting coils on the stator are good too. Evercoat 27 is an all purpose polyester filler for fiberglass repairs. The benefit is that it is white in color so it will blend well to most boat hulls. For minor fairing it will be fine. Yes, I was afraid of that. The FSM says to double check the emergency relief down first. If someone messed with it, it could be the problem. Otherwise it will require removing the motor and cleaning everything. At that point I may as well get an O-ring kit and just rebuild it. We shall see.

Another problem. When I raise the motor to the full up position, it slowly lowers back down. I have to check the pump emergency down relief screw to make sure it is tightened to the correct torque.
