Re: Remote Engine Shift and Throttle Controls for a KATAMA Console
Phil, I understand your perspective on the distance between the steering wheel and the engine controls but I found the side mounted control unit to be very natural to use. These older 16/7" boats are not very wide and when seated at the helm, my hand fell naturally on the throttle control. The ...

Re: Remote Engine Shift and Throttle Controls for a KATAMA Console
I had a Minot and that boat shipped with the same side console that was used in the Katama. In my boat, the engine control was mounted to the side of the vertical console leg that would be next to the driver's right leg when he is seated at the helm. There is a partial picture of this on Cetacea pag...

Propeller Trim Tab Confusion
Many years ago, there was a discussion here in the GAM forum about propeller trim tabs. Here is a link to that discussion http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021079.html That discussion included quite a bit of technical detail about why a propeller trim tab is needed on an outboard motor. On Y...

Re: Reversible Pilot Seat Legs Group Buy
biggiefl, I agree with you about the durability of those new legs that are sold by Specialty Marine. The original RPS legs were each made of a monolithic plastic resin casting with gusseting in the critical areas and those OEM legs were extremely tough. The legs sold by Specialty Marine are made of ...

Reversible Pilot Seat Legs Group Buy
I just sold a set of Reversible Pilot Seat Z-Legs in MARKETPLACE. The response that I had to that For-Sale post was tremendous. If enough people are seriously interested in buying sets of these legs, you should group together and try to get the manufacturer to make a manufacturing run of these legs ...

The Z-legs have been sold.
I received an overwhelming response to this ad.
[Ron--MARKETPLACE is just for notices of FOR-SALE, WANTED-TO-BUY, and APPRAISALS. If you want to research a group buy and start a discussion, start a new thread in THE GAM--jimh]

SOLD: New Set of Z-Legs for RPS
I have a NEW pair of brown plastic Z-Legs for a Reversible Pilot Seat (RPS). The price is $70 plus shipping from Baltimore, MD. Z-Legs_New.jpg About 15 years ago, [Tom Clark] on this site organized a group buy of these from the manufacturer who then did a special manufacturing run of the Z-legs for ...

Re: 1969 Minot 16 Re-power
I re-powered a 1969 Minot with a 2001 Johnson 90-HP two-stroke-power-cycle outboard engine that weighed about 320-lbs. The engine was a match made in heaven for the MINOT 16.

Location for Mounting Fuel-Water Separator Filyer
I would like to add a fuel-water separator filter to my 2004 220 Dauntless.
I don't see a good place to mount the filter,
ONLY FOR READERS WHO have a fuel-water separator filter installed on their 220 Dauntless: where is it mounted?
Thanks—ron

Re: Retaining Barrel Nuts in Hatch Covers.
The name used for these fasteners does seem to be a preferential term. Apex Fasteners refers to them as sex bolts https://apexfasteners.com/fasteners/sex-bolt but I also don’t like that name. Curiously, my brother, who is a mechanical engineer in the trucking industry, and my high school senior neph...

Re: Retaining Barrel Nuts in Hatch Covers.
I had the same problem with the fasteners that hold the hinges to the hatch covers on my 2004 Dauntless 220. The fasteners are indeed "sex bolts" and the heads broke off on the female side of each of the bolts. Sue at Twin Cities Marine told me that they replace "a lot" of these ...

Re: Gauge placement on 1972 Katama console
I had a 1969 Minot which uses the same console as the Katama. I built a box out of Starboard which I mounted to the top of the console. I then mounted a tachometer in that box. You could lengthen the box to allow for more gauges.

Last spring, West Marine carried the Igloo 54-quart marine cooler and a cushion to fit it. The cushion won't be an original Boston Whaler cushion, but it is a good cushion.---ron

Re: 2004 DAUNTLESS 220 Leaking Drains
myakka--how did you finish those bronze scuppers in the splash well? Did you cut them off? If you left them as is, they would protrude into the splash well. Could you post a picture of them installed in your boat? jimh--the tubes on that Outrage are different than the ones used in my Dauntless. See ...

2004 DAUNTLESS 220 Leaking Drains
On my 2004 Dauntless 220 the two splash well drain tubes and the transom drain tube are plastic. Each is a two-piece design made of two different size plastic tubes. One half is slightly smaller in diameter than the other half. One piece is pressed into a transom hole from the outside of the boat an...

Re: 2004 Mercury 225 FourStroke Corrosion
The motor is a rebranded Yamaha 225 four-stroke and I was wrong about the hours. It has about 300 hours on it. For the first 10 years of its life, the motor was used in bay behind Ocean City, MD. The dry exhaust problem is not due to salt water corrosion or lack of flushing with fresh water after us...

2004 Mercury 225 FourStroke Corrosion
I have a 2004 Dauntless 220 with a 2004 Mercury 225 FourStroke on it. The 2004 Mercury 225 FourStroke has 230-hours, and it has substantial corrosion in the dry exhaust stack. Q1: does the cost of repair of substantial corrosion in the dry stack of a 2004 Mercury 225 FourStroke engine exceed the ben...
