Viking in Pembroke is a factory authorized repair site. Ritchie has stopped servicing a lot of older compasses.

I removed my door frame and had the frame powder coated. Peeling paint on the frame is a common problem in these models.

I have a 1999 Conquest 21 with an Optimax 200hp direct injection two stroke engine. The boat still came with the 92 gallon fuel tank.

I just visited the local MarineMax dealer on my lunch break to order a part. I noted to the clerk the show floor looking pretty bare. He stated all boats already sold and no available inventory for sale. It seems dealerships are reliant on service and parts after the sale for revenue.

Great BRP statistics if you own a snow mobile, but I’m in Florida and this is a boating site.
I never mentioned Mercury, I’ve owned both Mercury’s and Evinrudes for the record.
Bottom line: Both E-Tec and Optimax were doomed due to Goverment environmental regulation.

I’ve been fortunate with my 1999 Optimax 200-HP and there have been no powerhead problems. The biggest repair for me has been the trim-tilt hydraulics on the midsection. I will likely update to a Mercury FourStroke because of the Optimax noise level.

I decided to take the Tuesday after Labor Day off for a 4 day weekend. I went to the dry stack marina to launch my boat and we had the place to ourselves. The ramps in FL since springtime have been overflowing so I put the boat in a marina for the summer to avoid all the ramp drama.

The pandemic has created a demand surge for new boats as a socially distant recreation for families to get outside. NMMA is having one of their best years in decades, which may be counter-intuitive with the economy shut down.

Brunswick CEO was interviewed recently on CNBC network. He stated after initial dip in sales, sales skyrocketed in April. I see a similar trend in my neighborhood with in-ground pool construction.

210 Ventura and 210 Outrage models are not self bailing. I painfully got underway once and forgot to put in the garboard plug on transom prior to launch at the ramp.

A clarification. The original power for 1997-2001 Conquest 23 was for a single 250HP or twin 150HP, so in that aspect it could be powered for 300HP. There simply did not exist 300HP motors, back then as a single with perhaps the notable exception of the Yamaha HPDI but that motor had a terrible repu...

That boat was USCG rated at max 250 HP. If you power with 300 you may have trouble getting insured with your carrier.

I went to a fishing seminar sponsored by the local MarineMax dealership last night. He stated these motors were specifically introduced to replace the L4 Verado 185 and 200 that were known to be nowhere near as smooth and refined as the excellent L6 Verados.

I like the look of these new Mercury motors much more than the Evinrude E-Tec G2 motors.
