I purchased a 2012 Super Sport in 2021. The anchor locker one-inch Marlon through-hull drain has failed, and the foam in the hull is moist
I plan to use a 316 Stainless Groco TH-1000-WS, https://www.groco.net/products/fittings/stainless-steel-fittings/th-ws-series-stainless/th-1000-ws) as a replacement for the Marlon drain fitting. After I ordered and received the part, I realized the hole in the hull is 1.5-inch diameter. The hole is cut to a larger diameter to accommodate the two-piece mating design of the Marelon part, which leaves more space than I would like for the TH-1000-WS to move around.
I now plan is to use the female potion of the Marelon part as a spacer for the TH-1000-WS and secure the assembly with 3M5200 adhesive
Q1: what should i do about the moist foam in the through hull?
ASIDE: My understanding is that the water-logging problems were remedied years before 2012, [that is, this more modern Unibond hull foam is impervious to holding water]
Q2: what are the negative consequences that might occur by using a stainless steel drain instead of the OEM Marlon part?
Thanks,
Greg

Re: 2012 Whaler 130 Super Sport - through hull replacement
Greg—Boston Whaler does not use metal through hull fittings on any but the newest models due to the surfaces not being in parallel. While brass drain tubes have flexibility to accommodate a slight bend. Plastic drain tubes can accommodate this in a small way. Metal through-hulls do not.
The prevailing advice from experienced owners and Boston Whaler includes:
The use of 3M400 or 3M5200 is not recommended on a Boston Whaler unless you are constructing something.

The prevailing advice from experienced owners and Boston Whaler includes:
- Remove old drain tube and sealant
- Dry the area with paper towels to remove excess moisture
- Use a hair dryer to get foam surface dry to the touch
- Install new drain tube with the improved snap-to-fit drain tube assembly using copious amounts of either SikaFlex or Boat Life's Life Caulk sealant on both flanges
- To ensure a tight fit of the drain assembly place a 1-1/2-inch or wider diameter washer on the outside both ends of the drain
- Guide a threaded rod through both washers
- Add nuts on both ends and tighten to compress the two halves.
