Last year I rescued a neglected 1986 Montauk 17 from a ride to the dump. This 1986 MONTAUK 17 boat has been sitting outdoors uncovered for at least 20 years. Before that the boat spent enough time in the water to develop osmotic blisters.
I have started a few small projects on the boat. Water absorption into the foam core is my main concern
This MONTAUK 17 has no engine, no fuel tank, the pilot seat is removed; the center console and bow and stern railings are still on the boat. I measured weight the boat’s weight by hoisting it onto a hog scale: 820-lbs. This seems to be about right for a 1986 Montauk to me.
If the measured weight of 820-lbs is in the zone for a MONTAUK 17 of this era, I will get to work on more restoration.
