1964 16-footer Hull Delamination and Repair

Postby mtown » Sat Jan 08, 2022 10:29 am

A large portion of the bottom and port side of my 1964 16-footer that had been repaired in c.2015 eventually ripped off while underway in c.2017. I was able to recover the hull pieces. I made another repair, which I describe below:
  • flipped the hull
  • used pourable foam [that cures to a density of] 4-lbs [per-cubic-foot] to reshape the bottom
  • used epoxy to wet the foam
  • reattached the torn-off hull pieces
  • used more cloth and epoxy to build up any voids
  • faired with an epoxy fairing putty
  • painted with epoxy barrier coat.
The boat is now in use with no [new hull delamination].

Congratulations on the successful repair of the major hull damage to the 58-year-old hull.
