I seem to have a part leftover from my restoration of a 1969 SPORT 13. I don't remember removing it from the boat.
Q1: where does the part shown in Figure 1 go on a 1969 SPORT 13 boat?

The part shown in Figure 1 is the backing plate for the bow railing support.
There are two of them, one on each side of the hull, forward to support the vertical stanchion. They insert from the outside into the two holes. The two machine screws threat into it.

If the boat in question has side rails, each rail would be held in position by two standoffs (stanchions) and backing plates. (See http://hemphill.org/whaler/whaler.html)

Thanks for the replies. I actually figured it out after posting the thread. When re-installing the railings after painting, I saw the other backing plates behind the stanchion stand-offs. Ugh.
