Hello to All. I have a 1976 Super Sport 15 that is completely stripped of its interior. I am in the process of reconditioning or replacing the Mahogany components. Soon I will mount a 1990 Mercury 25 tiller-steering engine to the SUPER SPORT 15. I have no idea of what performance I will get or what to expect. I just want to get on the water with this 25-HP engine for now.
Please tell me of your experience with [a SUPER SPORT 15 powered by a 25-HP tiller steered engine].
Share your thoughts with me.
Q1: Will a SUPER SPORT 15 with a 25-HP engine and a 200-lbs pilot be able to accelerate onto plane?
I hope to hear feedback on this question.

According to Boston Whaler, as listed in the REFERENCE article on the 15-foot hull, the minimum power to plane a 15-foot hull is 20-HP. See
http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/15/
Generally the specification for minimum power to reach plane is for the hull in a bare hull in very light condition, no extra gear, and a single crew.
Re: SUPER SPORT 15 with 25-HP
Do you have a tiller extension? I suspect you'll need to get your weight well forward to plane off. Obviously the condition of the bottom will be a factor, as will having the right prop on the motor.
Re: SUPER SPORT 15 with 25-HP
I am aware of the min hp spec from Boston Whaler and the possible need for a tiller extension. Long shot, but hoping for someone with real life experience using a 25 on a 15' Sport.
