For my 180 DAUNTLESS I am considering using a Bob’s 4-inch hydraulic jack plate to improve performance improvement and enable the boat to run in shallow water.
[To anyone who has run a Bob's 4-inch jack plate on a 180 DAUNTLESS:] Are there any problems with this set up?
Will adding the jack plate cause cause porpoising?
BACK STORY: Ten years ago I bought a Montauk with a 35-MPH top speed. Everyone here said get a jack plate and a Stiletto prop. I got that prop and a 4-inch manual plate; the boat was completely transformed. Top end was 42-MPH. I saw no negative affects. I just sold that boat and bought a 2006 180 DAUNTLESS 180 with a VERADO 150. The 180 DAUNTLESS runs 42-MPH at 6,200-RPM with three aboard.

180 DAUNTLESS Jack Plate
Re: 180 DAUNTLESS Jack Plate
I had a 1999 Dauntless 18 with a jack plate. It came with the boat so I don’t know how the boat handled before the jack plate.
That DAUNTLESS 18 boat did porpoise at times. I found by raising up the engine and keeping the trim down eliminated the porpoising. The jack plate also was great for getting in and out of shallow water.

Thank you for answering. What set back distance was the jack plate?
Re: 180 DAUNTLESS Jack Plate
I can’t remember exactly so I am guessing it was 4 to 5 inches.
