I have a 2001 130 SPORT with the original 2001 Mercury 40-HP two-stroke-power-cycle engine with electric start and remote steering. I am considering re-powering the 130 SPORT with a new engine, a 40-HP four-stoke-power cycle model, but I am concerned about the heavier weight of the new engine compared to the current engine.
The lowest dry-weight of the 2001 Mercury is 176-lbs. In contrast a new Mercury 40 FOURSTROKE is 244-lbs.
To anyone with experience in a re-power of a c.2001 130 SPORT: what do you suggest?
I don't want to sacrifice speed or power.

To test the new engine weights, simulate it by adding bags of sand, gravel, jugs of water to the splashwell.
Consider DFI as well as 4 strokes.
