Q1: will a Suzuki DF70 be a good engine to re-power a 1969 KATAMA 16?
Q2: where can I find a reputable outboard engine dealer with a 20-inch shaft 90-HP engine in stock?
BACK STORY
I can find a 20-inch 70-HP or a 25-inch 90-HP but no 20-inch 90-HP. I would rather not use a jack plate. I don't want the boat to be under-powered.

Re: 1969 KATAMA 16 Re-power
A new SUZUKI DF70 would be a nice engine on a 1969 KATAMA 16 boat.

Re: 1969 KATAMA 16 Re-power
A Suzuki 70-HP will do very well.
As for dealer who has one, that will be very difficult.
I would locate them your area via http://www.suzukimarine.com/Dealers.aspx.
Sorry to say, 95=percent of [new engine] buyers are placing orders with a refundable deposit and waiting five to 16 months for delivery--model dependan).
Also know: any loose engines will likely be marked up significantly to take advantage of demand. Expect engine prices to be in the $9,000 to $11,000 range. Rigging and installation will add about $2,500.

Re: 1969 KATAMA 16 Re-power
I was on Marathon Key in Florida in May 2022. The Suzuki dealer there had eight Suzuki 90-HP engine in crates and for sale. He was asking $8,500 for them, but would only sell an engine if he also installed that engine.

A cogent article to read on this topic is

Therein you will also find a mention of another interesting article about power needed for the 16/17-foot hulls:

The salient comments about engine weight are all in the first post that thread.
