My Outrage 25 Whaler Drive has the Montauk center console. I was dreading redoing the [more than six] gauges that consumed most of the console's space with the 1980's motors. I was thinking of using two ICON Pro 4-inch or two SystemCheck Tachometer gauges, but then started thinking I could do it with only one 4-inch multi-function display.
Can I run twin 2006 E-TEC 200-HP engine with only a single 4-inch multi-function display, a buzzer, and a key panel?
I was thinking of a Garmin GMI20 or Simrad IS35. and one pair of 2-inch System Check lamp fields would be OK , if needed.

After reading all of Jim's very complete E-TEC and NMEA-2000 reference guides I have settled on this for the small console.
1) Use a custom hybrid cabling setup.
2) Use two (existing) modular cables (MWS) for:
--a) two "System Check" 2 inch lamp-fields with horns
--b) a standard dual key and single kill switch panel
--c) standard trim and tilt switches (in the binnacle shifter)
--d) add the resisters for the EMM trim tilt sensor.
3) Install a EMM to NMEA-2000 cable to each motor.
4) Install a stern mounted NMEA-2000 tee setup for
--a) motors
--b) transom mounted paddle wheel/depth sounder combo
--c) fuel tank sender
--d) GPS
--e) oil tank sender (maybe)
5) Console mounted tee for
--a) a single Simrad IS35 4 inch display
--b) 12 volt power connection to breaker switch.
Should be small and simple, with one display, two horns.

Re: Outrage 25, Twin E-TEC: Minimalist Instrumentation
Your instrumentation plan sounds good. You might throw in one Evinrude-branded I-Command gauge so you can get diagnostic messages. I think you can also initiate winterization from the I-Command--I will have to double check that.
Re: Outrage 25, Twin E-TEC: Minimalist Instrumentation
Hmm. If I use the single I-Command instrument [then] would I not need the two 2-inch System-Check [annunciators]? I see the I-Command has a buzzer output. That would get me down to just two gauges.
Re: Outrage 25, Twin E-TEC: Minimalist Instrumentation
An I-Command 3.5-inch gauge satisfies the requirement for the E-TEC to have a warning device.
With twin engines, the I-Command can also be very useful; it has an engine RPM synchronization page.
Also, with twin E-TEC engines, you must set the NMEA-2000 INSTANCE to be 0 for Port engine and 1 for Starboard engine.

Re: Outrage 25, Twin E-TEC: Minimalist Instrumentation
Things are moving along on the Outrage. Related to this project: are the black aluminum console plates still available from Whaler? The old ones have too many holes.
Re: Outrage 25, Twin E-TEC: Minimalist Instrumentation
I built my own replacement panels. Scrap aluminum sourced from old road signs. Cuts easily with a regular circular saw. Cut the holes with the properly sized hole saw and my cheap $40 drill press. Primmer painted with zinc chromate primmer. Final coat with high temperature wrinkle paint.

I made my own replacement aluminum instrument panels--twice. I described the process in my article in REFERENCE. See
