Hello everyone. Shopping 18's and wondered if Whaler made one without teak etc. I have seen 22's constructed this way. Chap

If you search back through prior Forum threads, you will find a lot of history on the 18 Outrage hull. However, the quick answer to your question is yes. Beginning in 1986, one could order an Outrage 18 with fiberglass gunnels instead of teak, and if it had the standard twin helm chair seating, the only teak would be on the console. In 1991, the last year of the original configuration, all teak was eliminated from a new console, also. In 1992-95 the boat became a 19 Outrage II, also with no teak. If you go to the "Rendezvous" section of this site, you can find a picture of one of these with large "Whaler" letters on the side. |

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like glass gunnel boats did exist in the late 80's. Several of my friends have teak 18's and we care for them well. I was looking for one with less routine work and a leaning post. I let a commercial slip through my fingers several years ago. Shopping... Chap

I am looking for the glass gunnels for a 1988 18 guardian. Can these be ordered from a whaler dealer or do I have to contact the comercial division? I would also like a console any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance, Eric |

The teak or fiberglass gunnel options on all second generation (Dougherty designed) Outrages were always a factory (only) installed option. I'm sure the recreational division fiberglass gunnels are no longer available as parts, but since you have a commercial boat, you may be in luck. They are a different design, but thoses boats are still being made. Try the factory CPD, as I doubt a Dealer will be able to help. Take a look at the CPD 22' Whaler in the Cetacea section of this site, and you can see what the CPD gunnels look like. |

Thanks for the reply I will contact the comercial division. As you may have gathered I have purchased a stripped 18 guardian hull from our local marine police and am trying to piece it back together and would prefer to get the original whaler parts. Thanks again! Eric |
