My RULE MATE 1100 pumped stopped working. My research found a broken wire and a blown fuse. I fixed the wire and replaced the fuse. Now the pump works but does not shut off. I also cleaned the float and float chamber; still the pump keeps running. Is there anything else I can do ? |

By memory, I believe there are usually 3 wires. battery positive (always on), battery negative and battery positive to the switch. This way the pump can turn on either automatically via the float, or via the switch. Are you sure you didn't mix up the wires? |

Is this pump supposed to be self regulating and turn itself on and off? Or is it supposed to be controlled by an external switch of some sort? |

The RULE MATE 1100 is a self regulating pump and identical to the RM 750 that I have on my boat but more gallons per hour. On my pump, in the beginning, I only hook it up in auto mode, but that proved to be unreliable. At first I thought it was the position of the pump in the live well, and, after repositioning, it the problem still persisted. The problem was that it would not come on no matter what the water level. I finally connected the third wire to a separate on-off switch to override the auto feature. My pump is hooked directly to the battery and on the return trip from New York, stopping for fuel the pump was running. Climbing in the boat and banging on the pump with no avail, I cut the auto wire and it stopped. How the auto feature works per Rule: The NEW eco-friendly Rule Mate series of Bilge pumps feature a solid state water sensing technology that eliminates the need for a separate float switch. Rule has a three year warranty on all their pumps. My pump had a 05 label on it and possibly putting it out of warranty. After 4 e-mails with the tech dept. trying to resolve the problem they ended up sending me a new pump stating that I could have bought old stock. |

It sounds like the cause of the pump running continuously is either --malfunction of the pump, or |

Perhaps it is just enough example of how far Rule's quality control has slipped. |

Rule has moved most of its operations to Mexico. |
