I have been using SEA FOAM Motor Treatment in my 40 Yamaha for sometime now - maybe 10 tanks of gas. I can only correlate excellet results. The Yamaha outboard motor ran quite rough when I first got it last year and I admit I was worried. It started instantly and ran great WOT but rough low and mid. I did a compression check which was well within specs. Then I worked through trouble shooting, did Sal's decarb procedure, changed to Yamalube (major positive results) and, of course, new plugs. I also spent considerable time shooting Deep Creep into the carbs and all that. Every tank of gas I have run through that motor has had SEA FOAM Motor Treatment added. At the beginning of this season I was still very concerned about rough running in mid power settings. However, I am here to tell you all this motor has consistantly run better with every tank of fuel and now runs great. I attribute most of that to Yamalube but not sure. What about RING FREE Fuel Additive? I have been intrigued by RING FREE Fuel Additive - had somebody go on and on about it a couple of weeks ago. What is the difference between RING FREE Fuel Additive and SEA FOAM Motor Treatment? I'd like to know. I have considered going to RING FREE Fuel Additive for a few tanks--what the hay? I am interested in your experiences and wisdom. THX 88 |

Well RING FREE Fuel Additive is about $36 dollars a quart and SEA FOAM Motor Treatment is about $6 a can. I use SEA FOAM Motor Treatment for my 50 hour decarb, but don't put it in the fuel. It works great for that application. I use RING FREE Fuel Additive when I purchase a new/used motor and give it the shock treatment dose for the first 12 gallons of fuel run through the motor. I do that in addition to a SEA FOAM Motor Treatment De-Carb. Other than that, I normally don't run any additives in the fuel. But if I did, I'd go with SEA FOAM Motor Treatment over RING FREE Fuel Additive Fuel Additive for regular (non-shock treatment) usage because of cost. BillS |

Thanks but in the real world does RING FREE Fuel Additive accomplish somethign that SEA FOAM Motor Treatment doesn't? I understand the dilution is something like one ounce/six gallons. Just trying to figure it out. thx |

I can't really tell you if one is better than the other but they perform the same purpose & thats to remove carbon & prevent it from forming again or slow it down. They are both excellent products & have excellent reputations. Sal |

I was told to use RING FREE Fuel Additive to keep my cylinders clean. I switched from Yamalube to a generic brand of oil and noticed the engine is beginning to show signs of running a little rougher. I am going out before my next trip to get more Yamalube |
