JHolmes photo on [Cetacea] Page 19 is tagged with the caption 13 foot Super Sport. [Actually it is captioned as "1988 Boston Whaler 13 Super Sport Limited"--jimh] I believe it is a 17 footer, similar to one I purchased last year. It is the first time I've seen another SS on these web pages. I'll send along a photo of mine on Boston's Charles river, as soon as the ice melts.

Check out the non-notched transom and other details... it's a 13!

Yes, BossMass, I noticed that you had a model that Jim had not listed in the reference pages. I'm sure a picture would be welcome. I planned on checking out my 1988 catalogue just to see what a 17 SS looks like.

One other thing, don't feel bad, its hard to tell the 11-13-15-17's apart when you first start looking, at least it was for me. The designs look pretty similar, and without a person in the picture for scale they tend to look bigger than the measured length. I think when I actually get in a whaler, it looks (and acts) like a boat two or three feet longer.

Taylor,

The 17 Super Sport Limited (and the Super Sport as well) ARE listed in the reference section, there just aren't any photos of one.

Bosmass, welcome and DO send in a photo. FYI, there is even a 15' Super Sport Limited (and the Super Sport as well).

The caption on Cetacea Page 19 is "Super Sport Limited", not "Super Sport" as cited above. The ALT TAG for non-image capable browsers reads "Photo: 1988 Whaler 13 Super Sport Limited".

The boat shown in that photo is a 13-footer.

At various times the Sport, Super Sport, and Super Sport Limited interiors were offered in a variety of hulls from 13 to 17 feet. In the 17-foot hull the SUPER SPORT LIMITED model was in production from 1986-1990.

Contributions of photos are always welcomed. Please see HOW TO SUBMIT at http://continuouswave.com/whaler/cetacea/guide.html

I am yet convinced that it is a 13 footer, seems a lot of stuff packed into 13 feet. I'll send photos of mine once on the river, last time I checked the Harvard crews were using the river so I guess I could venture forth...

That is a 13. Look at the size of the engine compared to the boat. No railings, etc.

There is one just like it on EBAY Hyperlink [Link broken as of 3/26/02--jimh]

I've got an 87 Super Sport Classic, and we've modified the seating and console to increase its suitability for fishing and waterfowl hunting around central California. The full-width seat fore of the dual consoles is now removable, the storage locker under that seat is gone out of the way, dual batteries with an isolator circuit are installed under the consoles to help get it on plane quicker, it has an 18 gal fuel tank under the remaining seat, it has been expertly carpeted and reupholstered by a local who learned the trade from his ex-con brother, and a custom bimini top plus full canvas that converts to a duck blind has been added. Its a little underpowered by a 60 Merc and has an auxiliary 9 hp Nissan.

I have a 1990 Super Sport Limited. I'm wondering if this one was a "custom" order. A doctor bought it new from Whaler in 1990. It has 2" thick mahogany lift up seats with the regular style Whaler white pleated cushion seat backs. Mahogany dashes on the dual consoles. I have never seen a SS Limited with mahogany seats. All I've ever seen were all fiberglass and cushioned interiors. I'll be glad to furnish some pix after I get her all dolled up.

Probably a hybrid. Guy wanted a SS Ltd but they only had a SS so they installed the consoles or something. The LTD had all glass like you stated.

[Edited hyperlinks--jimh]

The CETACEA COMMENTS section is really at its best talking about boats whose pictures are already in the Gallery.

Pictures of unusual Whalers are always welcome.

It's unusual with all the mahogany. That's one thing that drew me to it. The wood gives it that classic look that's just not there with the all glass LTD's. It has the usual drop in molded fiberglass interior exactly like the 13' on page 19 except the seats are 2" thick heavy solid mahogany with mahogany dashboard plates, steering wheel center cap, drain well cover and hatch. The reference section discribes the SS Limited with "molded fiberglass interior, no wood". I've never seen one like it.

Just wanted to add that I failed to mention that my 1990 SS Limited with all the mahogany is a 17 footer not a 13. I will be glad to submit some photos as soon as possible.
