Environmental adaptation has resulted in this evolution in the bow locker retaining mechanism on Arch Autenreith's Montauk. Short lengths of bungie cord emerge from holes drilled in the hatch and slip over stainless steel "hammock hooks" (West Marine P/N 104323 @ $2.29 pr.)

Be sure to drill the holes far enough away from the edge so that the knotted bungie cord does not interfere with closing the lid.

Once the first length of bungie came aboard, a second loop soon grew; it makes for easier fastening and releasing of the hold down.

Doug Merrill's Whaler lives off this dock in Maine. He's in the process of reworking it and plans to replace the leaning post with a restored reversible pilot seat for inland use.

1999 Whaler Guardian 22 [Commerical Division]
This may be the newest "Classic", Louie Kokinis's 1999 Whaler Guardian 22. Purchased from the Commercial Division, this Boston Whaler retains the older hull design. In less than a year it has logged over 300 hours, fishing the Pacific from Mexico to Alaska, home ported in Vancouver, B.C. A 225 HP Mercury is the main propulsion; a 15 HP Bigfoot 4-stroke is the "kicker." Says Louie, "Fish love it; it loves roughs water."

Kid Whaler
David Vergara's son Paul has been helping him in the restoration of his Whaler 17 Bass Boat, but the boy also seems to have taken up his own interest in Boston Whalers, as evidenced by this LEGO creation of his.
