I had a similar model, a 1991 17' Outrage that I ended up mounting a bracket on. I took it to my local dealer amd for an hours worth of labor, had it installed in no time. I hung a 4-stroke 5hp merc on the back and it worked great. I didn't notice any ill effects and I liked having the piece of mind...

To add to what Phil says, keep in mind your market. You're selling a boat that's 50+ years old, so it's not going to appeal to the newbie or someone who's not really a Whaler fan. People will have a tendency to look at the age, then bluebook and offer accordingly. Looks like you've got a nice one on...

That might be a tough sell unless you can find one of those foldable tops that connect to the console rails. There have been many discussions about adding a T-top to the Montauk hull and consensus is it's not a good fit. Too light and nothing to mount it to.
