2010 E-TEC 130-HP EngineL: Soot; Cracked Lower Covers

SOOT On the housing of my recently acquired 2010 E-TEC 130-HP engine there is more carbon [soot] than I have been seeing on my [other two E-TEC engines]. [After reading jimh's account of maintenance on his 2010 E-TEC 225-HP V6 engine in which a exhaust lower inner housing showed damage], I now wonde...

Re: 1996 DAUNTLESS [17]: Loose Steering Wheel

Yes bad descriptive, I was referring to this method for removing a steering wheel when you do not have a puller handy, not professional but seems to work for the below you tube person. https://youtu.be/iDWDp06ap9k I should of said flushing the helm nut to protect the threads before hitting the helm ...

Re: E-TEC Engine: Love or Hate

Hi Jim--your maintenance history will be quite helpful. [Moderator's note: a discussion about particular problems encountered with a particular E-TEC engine has been moved to REPAIRS and MODIFICATIONS for further discussion. This thread is discussing the general feelings of Love or Hate toward the E...

E-TEC Engine: Love or Hate

I have heard much about the E-TEC engines as being either hated or loved. On my newest used Boston Whaler boat, the engine is a 2010 Evinrude E-TEC 130-HP. I also have a 2007 E-TEC on my 1987 MONTAUK [UNKNOWN LENGTH], and a 2013 E-TEC 275 on my REVENGE 22. Both engines were purchased used, and I hav...

Re: 1996 DAUNTLESS [17]: Loose Steering Wheel

PHIL T: Thanks for the information. I checked the helm nut, loosened; I and retightened it. All there is good. I do not have a wheel puller. I was shy about bashing the flush nut with upward pressure on the [steering] wheel (as I have seen on the internet to remove the [steering] wheel for further i...

Re: 1996 DAUNTLESS 17 Fuel Fill Fitting Replacement Part

PHIL T: thank you for the information. I went to the storage site and did find an inspection plate that gave access to the 1.5 inch fuel supply hose and a smaller separate vent line attached to the fuel fill fitting, using two hose clamps on the large hose and one clamp on the vent hose. I will need...

1996 DAUNTLESS [17]: Loose Steering Wheel

The steering wheel wiggles left to right on my 1996 DAUNTLESS [OF UNKNOWN SIZE, which much later in the discussion was revealed to be a DAUNTLESS 17]. Q1: is there a bushing that can be easily replaced [to remedy the wiggling from side to side of the steering wheel]? The steering wheel center nut is...

1996 DAUNTLESS 17 Fuel Fill Fitting Replacement Part

I recently bought a 1996 DAUNTLESS 17. While trailering home my new boat, the fuel tank filler fitting cap bounced off. The fuel tank filler cap was a vented cap, and it had a crack at the top point of its [hinge or] swivel. There are no threads [on the fuel filler fitting receptacle], so the fuel f...
