Re: 1984 Outrage 20 Gel Coat Repair

UPDATE I called Advance Coatings Company in Westminster, Massachusetts, and I purchased a quart of their DESERT TAN gel coat. They shipped it with catalyst within a week or so. I have just applied the gel coat and it's a perfect match on my 1984 OUTRAGE 20. I am very happ. Would definitely recommend...

Re: Oil Tank Location

Hey Jim, thanks for the help. I have two batteries in the center console right now so an oil tank would eat up the rest of the space. I suppose I'm on board with the splash well. I believe I would have to put it off to one side as the center looks clustered with outboard cables, especially if the tr...

Q2: can a 10.5-liter capacity remote oil tank for a two-stroke-power-cycle engine be located in the engine splash well of a 1984 OUTRAGE V-20? Q2: can a 10.5-liter cap...

Re: 1984 Outrage V-20 Wiring Paths

Thanks for the reply Jim. I didn't even think about electrical wires next to the gas tank. That is probably a bad idea haha. Looks like I'll just run the wiring how the previous owner had it. Not the cleanest solution in the world, but it will do just fine. The only other solution would be jumping f...

1984 Outrage V-20 Wiring Paths

I am rewiring my [1984--ALWAYS USE FOUR DIGTS FOR YEAR] OUTRAGE V-20. I plan to install strips of LED lamps under the gunwales on both Port and Starboard. I cannot run wires from under the center console to the port gunwale using the path for the fuel tank fill hose. I can run wire from the center c...

Outrage V-20 Adding Railings

I plan to add railings to my recently purchased [unspecified model year] OUTRAGE 20. The railings I plan to add will be at the engine splash well and run athwartship between the gunwales. Give me photographs of such a railing installation. Give me advice on installing such a railing. Q1: could rod h...

Re: 1984 OUTRAGE V-20 Re-power

Hey Jim, Thanks for the detailed response here. It really does add up and you'll never truly make back the money on [savings in fuel purchases]. I plan to shop for a used 150, 175, or maybe 200-HP four-stroke-power-cycle engine selling for $4,000 to $6,000 locally. My Yamaha Ox66 250-HP engine might...

1984 OUTRAGE V-20 Re-power

My 1984 OUTRAGE V-20 is powered by an Yamaha 250-HP Ox66 engine. The engine runs well. The boat transom is solid. I may re-power soon. I'll be using the boat in the San Francisco Bay area for fishing, cruising, and occasionally towing a skier. I don't think I need all the power and I'd definitely li...

Removing Tape Adhesive Residue from Gel Coat

Q1: what solvents can dilute and remove residue and stains created by "grip tape" from non-skid gel coat areas? BACK STORY I just purchased a [1984 OUTRAGE 20]. The previous owner had applied grip tape--similar to a skateboard--onto the textured non-slip deck. After peeling the grip tape a...

Re: 1984 Outrage 20 Gel Coat Repair

Thanks for the input and help here. Once I get [the original gel coat] looking nice, I'll reach out to Spectrum.

Q2: will SPECTRUM help me with a custom color?

Q3: will SPECTRUM be able to just match [the] shade I'm left with?

1984 Outrage 20 Gel Coat Repair

I'm working on my 1984 OUTRAGE 20--my first Boston Whaler boat restoration. Q1: where can gel coat be purchased that will be an exact match for the 1984 hull and deck colors? From what I have learned, [this 1985 OUTRAGE 20 boat has] two colors of gel coat. One color is called Desert Tan. Most of the...
