Re: 170 MONTAUK: How to Store Fly Fishing Rods
UPDATE 13 MONTHS LATER These rod holders [probably means the SEASUCKER horizontal rod holders that were mention in a previous post and to which a URL was given] are perfect for the ALERT 17. But [flyfishing] rods should be [stored] in half and the SEASUCKER [rod holders] should be moved toward the [...

Re: 2004 ALERT 17 Removal of Railings
Decided to keep the rails after a season on the boat. The rail definitely likes to grab the line after a nice long double haul at times but I think casting buckets will help prevent that. Have had young clients, older clients, people with balance, people without balance, calm conditions and rough co...

Re: 2004 ALERT 17 Removal of Railings
I can report that after a nice cast with the fly rod, the line wrapped around the bow railing. I will need to remove the bow railing, but I don't want to have to use epoxy resin to fill and block the hole. Q2: what could be done to allow for the the railing to be removed but then reinstalled when I ...

Whitecap Folding Cleat - 6745 https://defender.com/en_us/whitecap-folding-cleat-6745?utm_id=147314937780 As long as the above example of a folding cleat will fit and its mounting screws will land in the reinforced area embedded in the hull, or you can use through bolts and a backing plate, the inst...

2004 ALERT 17: Changing to Folding Cleats
Q1: how can the cleats on a 2004 ALERT 17 be replaced by folding cleats?
ASIDE: I am going to do a lot of fly fishing on the boat.

170 MONTAUK: How to Store Fly Fishing Rods
I am seeking method to add [horizontal storage] for fly rods to the cockpit of a 170 MONTAUK. I would like the storage to be in the inwale of the cockpit below the gunwale. I am a fishing guide so I usually have anywhere four to six [fly fishing] rods on the boat. Give me any idea you might have for...

Re: Re:APPRAISAL: 2004 ALERT 17 with 2006 Evinrude E-TEC 90
All E-TEC engines are capable of providing a engine history report that will provide data about how the engine was run, what faults have occurred, what the engine speed ranges and hours were, and all sorts of other very useful information. Thank you! I bought the diagnosis software to test the boat...

APPRAISAL: 2004 ALERT 17 with 2006 Evinrude E-TEC 90
What would be a typical selling price to a true Boston Whaler boat fan for a 2004 ALERT 17 with a 2006 E-TEC 90-HP on a trailer, with a Riptide electric 80-lbs thrust trolling motor? The hull is sound. The current owner has had it 14-years. ALERT14.jpeg I am about to buy the boat at what I believe i...

Re: 2004 ALERT 17 Removal of Railings
I agree with JEFECINCO--before going to the trouble of removing the existing railing on the ALERT 17, you should try it out with your fly fishing rods....If the ALERT 17 is available at a favorable price, it has probably already been sold, as a good deal on an ALERT 17 is hard to find. You’re right...

2004 ALERT 17 Removal of Railings
Q1: would removing the railing from a 2004 ALERT 17 in order reduce the chance of snagging the line on them while fly fishing be a bad move? BACKSTORY I have found a boat at a favorable price that I might buy, a 2004 ALERT 17, which is a commercial version of the Montauk 170. If I were to buy the AL...
