Re: 170 MONTAUK Bow Trolling Motor and Rail Removal
I'm not sure that the manufacturer has a video. This is Dave deploy rather than anything automatic. The motor is slid forward through the mounting, and then swiveled into a vertical position. It misses the railing by an inch or so. There are some compromises. You can't raise the trolling motor to a ...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Bow Trolling Motor and Rail Removal
You do not have to remove the rails. Here's a link from the old forum: http://s691.photobucket.com/user/davidtollefson/library/?sort=2&page=1 There are more installations on the old forum, many may be better than mine. Searching is always a good idea. My trolling motor is designed for fresh wate...

Re: 2012 170 Montauk Brown Fluid Coming From Console
I would be thoughtful about sealing the rigging tunnel with silicone or anything else. You might want to run more wires or cables through it in the future. I have, and it's not too gruesome on your boat.

Re: Advice to First-time Boat Owner
I think all of the above advice is good. If possible, I would try to do everything ten times before going to the boat ramp. You could go to a remote corner of a big box parking lot, put out some cardboard boxes or cones, and practice backing in a no stress environment. The same would be true for sta...

Re: Towing 170 Montauk with Ford Escape
You have direct experience towing this specific combination, so trust your own opinion or gut feeling. I've driven I-95 and found it a bit tight and pushy. Take the extra day so you can opt out of busier times of day.

Re: 150 Montauk Trolling Motor Mount
That's actually my boat. I have not noticed that there is a lack of support for the motor when stowed. I don't mean to dismiss that concern. Most of the motor's weight is right there on the edge of the boat. You can find a number of quick release bases on Minnkota's website. Look at the accessories ...

Re: 150 Montauk Trolling Motor Mount
Greetings Jay, You should be able to find some descriptions and photos of bow mount trolling motors in the old forum. Here's a link to a thread I contributed to. The link to the photos is about the sixth post down. Good luck with your project. Note that this installation is on a Montauk 170. This is...

Re: 170 Montauk Questions
My 170 Montauk has two batteries in the console. They fit easily. If you want 24-Volts for the trolling motor, it seems to me that you want three batteries, as the starting battery would be on a different circuit. I'm not sure that three batteries would fit. There is a lot of room on the front surfa...

Re: 6 or 8 foot Bimini length for 13 Whaler
You may want to think about the mounting location, then measure where the bows of the folded bimini will lie when it is not is use. I have seen some that folded neatly, and very much out of the way.

My apologies gentlemen. There are lower case letters available if you touch the letter key a second time. I can connect to my home wifi. I would be happy have my previous post corrected if that's possible. Thanks.

Re: Simrad GO7 XSE
I installed the GO7 XSE this week and have a few initial thoughts. The display is very bright, and is clearly visible in full sunlight. I used the device for a couple of hours in a local reservoir. The depth and fish display is clear and has high resolution. It uses polarization as part of the displ...

I agree with Phil. [The platform and ladder made by Martin Marine are] a really nice platform and ladder. [The platform and ladder made by Martin Marine] was not hard to put on and is well made.

Re: Simrad GO7 XSE
I just ordered the GO7 XSE today. It seems that most vendors are packaging the plotter-SONAR with the more versatile (and expensive) transducer and maps. I agree that the marketing jargon is confusing, but that seems to be true for other manufacturers as well. It is backordered at this point, and al...

Re: MIGHTY SHIPS Episode on the EMMA MAERSK
Then we could say that these ships are extremely efficient in terms of fuel/ton/mile and the gross pollution is really about the fuel rather than the ships or their modern engines. My diesel truck burns ultra low sulfur fuel, injects urea into the exhaust stream, and filters out any soot it might pr...

Re: 1964 Sport 13: Height of Missing Handles
When I bought my sport 13, the locker cover did have handles. The cover was in very bad shape and I made a new one from solid lumber rather than plywood. I made the handles from 3/4 inch stock about 1 1/4 in high. The top edges were shaped with a round over bit in a router. I then cut a round bottom...

Re: DAUNTLESS 14: Adding Bow-mount Trolling Motor
I would suggest that you go to the old forum and search for "Montauk 17 electric trolling motor". I posted some pictures there, as did other members. I know you have a Dauntless rather than a Montauk, but I think the structure is similar. I'm pretty sure that the Minn-Kota 55 or similar is...

Re: Keeping Critters Out of Boats
I think the gel coat in Boston Whaler boats is polyester resin. If you do a search for "polyester resin vanity", it appears that many vanity tops are made of [polyester resin] material. Most vanity tops have bars of soap left on them, so it shouldn't be a problem.

It may be efficient to provide hearing protection for yourself and your passengers. I think this has been standard procedure for aircraft. You can enjoy the day together until the run out and back.
