I have a 1989 Outrage 18 with cooler chocks 28.5-inch apart. I read and re-read on the site, but nothing specific talks about measurement at the base of the cooler. Let me say that I neither trust that the chocks are properly placed or original.

This afternoon I went to West Marine and measured the 72-quart [cooler] which is just over 29.5-inch, a tad too long. I would like to not move the chocks if at all possible, but I'm getting to the point where it would be the easiest thing to do.

I did read that the 72-quart [cooler] is narrow with the crook in the middle, so if I'm going to move the chocks, maybe I should go to the 94-quart [cooler]. Then I worry about someone stubbing their toe on the wooden chocks.

So I turn to those who have gone before me and ask, what's the best thing to do here?

One possible explanation for the variance between the placement of the cooler chocks on a 1989 OUTRAGE and the dimensions of a 72-quart IGLOO cooler in 2017: IGLOO changed the design of the cooler slightly.

There are or were two 72-quart IGLOO [coolers] a year ago. I bought a new one for the 170 and found that the original has a bit smaller base. I made the new one work, but --just so you know--look at the name and model you need, not the newest one on the shelf, as I did

And yes, as mentioned before, the Boston Whaler seat for the ice chest is far superior to the IGLOO. You could say the Boston Whaler seat is much safer, because the IGLOO seat slides around on top of the chest.

Maybe the older 72-quart cooler has been discontinued, but it would be worth looking for. There are many models to confuse you.

I recall the standard cooler was the 86-quart cooler. Igloo replaced it with a taller lid and called it a 94-quart.

Owners with the rod back cushions dealt with the taller height by reversing the cooler so the hinges were in the front.

Phil--yes, that's exactly what my cooler chocks look like. I've had an older Igloo 94-quart that slid under the leaning post of my Hydra-Sports years ago, but it's low and long. I'll have to measure a new Igloo 94 quart.
