1996 Outrage 17: Source for Replacement Console

Unfortunately, our 1996 Outrage 17 was on the losing end of a falling tree with damage to the bow railing and the center console. The railing has been bent back into shape but the console is still in bad shape. Has anyone found a good replacement center console source (either new or salvage)?

Otherwise the boat held up remarkably well.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bill

Uhhh-thats a looooong shot. Finding used 17 outrage console is as close as hitting a lottery. I browse whaler related staff daily and have never seen one offered for sale.Because of the way its attached to a deck and very specific grove that base of the console has to receive it for exact match I say your best shot is to rebuild exiting one no matter how badly damaged is. Right glass shop can certainly do miracles replicate original one.Thats would be my way of thinking handling tree damage accident .

I am not sure where you are located, Bill, but I would check two sources outside of Houston, TX in Bastrop/Kemah: Angel's Marine (Angel Arciniega) (281) 337-1982, and Orlando's Fiberglass (Joe Orlando) (281) 334-2902. It appears neither has a website, but they are both are on Facebook.

I have heard that one or both may be reproducing the standard classic Montauk/Outrage consoles, and they may have a source for your 1996 console. I would say it is worth a phone call at least.

Good luck!

Bill -- I agree with PATXBill. The post classic consoles are hard to come by on Craigslist. Is it totally trashed or possible to repair?

Post a photo.

Thanks for the responses. I'll try those phone numbers on Monday.

The console was not totally destroyed, but was significantly damaged. The tree shattered the windscreen and drove the vertical bar of the grab rail down through the lockable electronics/storage area and into the main storage area/battery area. The lockable storage area collapsed. There are some cracks in the left side of the main console that go down to the top of the side access hatch. The grab rail was ripped off both sides of the console. The throttle was jammed into the full reverse position and cracked it's casing. The wheel seems ok.

I have used a fiberglass saw blade and removed the entire upper/electronics storage area. I have also cut a piece of white starboard to create a new top for the console. The console is now shorter and has no windscreen. I can live with it this way, but it is not my ideal setup.

Thanks again for all the responses.

If you get to the point of looking at aftermarket consoles, check out Carolina Skiff. They have a few options that may work for your boat. When replacing the console on my 15 Dauntless I went with their small/medium (I think) which has a built in front seat and is narrower than the original. I am extremely happy with this "upgrade". Price plus shipping on a pallet was not outrageous :)

Also you can check Panga Marine in Florida for after market consoles.
