Atlantic City Boat Show February 2016

So I went to the Atlantic City Boat show Thursday armed with a list of things to look at and ask questions about. The Lowrance Q&A is under my thread at viewtopic.php?f=9&t=191

Biggest boat was under 40'. Disappointed that I couldn't go look at and poke around the big sport fishers that I will never be able to buy. Bertram, Hatteras Post etc all MIA. Henriques had a 35 footer there, but that was it.

Whaler had many of their boats but not the 42 Outrage, didn't see a 17 Montauk either, thought that was odd.
Outboard manufacturers it seemed had dealers manning the factory booths instead of the whiz bang types from corporate HQ.
I went on a Thursday so I could ask my questions and spend some time selling myself on the idea of a re-power.

Honda and Yamaha not so accommodating. The people representing Evinrude seemed pretty good. I ended up spending about an hour talking with one of the techs-installers from a south Jersey Evinrude dealer. Very knowledgable and gave me the warm fuzzys if I was to do a re-power. I don't like anyone doing my work but I do realize that there are some thing you just can't do anymore.

Not sure I like the Rock'em Sock'em Robot look of the G2's, but I think I would hang a 200 G2 on my Outrage if the funds were available. Just a bit hard justifying an outboard that cost more then the boat, motor and trailer are currently valued at. Especially since my current 200 Yamaha still runs pretty good.

The G2 over the original E-Tec seems to run about $2000 more in the over 175HP range. Doesn't seem so bad when comparing the two technology wise.

The folks that market the new electronic flares brought up in another thread were there as well.

Several questions I asked they seemed unprepared for, like this electronic flare, how many pyrotechnic devices does it replace?
How does this man overboard device actually work with AIS and DSC? Have a demo to see? (no).
Why market a $145 hand held electronic flare if it has no approvals?

Manufacturer reps at their booth.
But there were multiple vendors at the show selling the products.
