Gentlmen--I have been a fan of Mr. Fisher's and Mr. Hunt's creation for 60-odd years. The first 13-footer I bought while working at a dealer in Stratford, Connecticut. The second one I got from the factory while David Loveless was in charge. I was unaware of this site only until recently. It is a remarkable resource for people interested in Whalers and I expect to spend many hours going through innumerable avenues! Thanks Jim!

Was the camper-top (shown in your photo above) a Boston Whaler factory option, aftermarket, or something custom you made yourself?

Yes please explain that top as it makes a nice looking "speedboat" out of that Whaler, very interesting.

The deck/camper idea came from my wife and I cruising with the 13' boat. We started by setting up tent posts and a tarp for our little cruising adventures. Then I thought there had to be a better way. So I worked out a full size foam model that I then covered with fiberglass. "Backwards" to Whalers process but essentially similar in the end. I offered it to Whaler in the early 70's and they thought the idea might be more appropriate on the 17' boat. They finally decided it wasn't for them, so it died. We used it camping on trips across Long Island Sound until I sold the 13' boat keeping the deck. I used Mills canvas and Whaler hardware bits to keep it in kind to the boat itself.
