A nice feature of a door lock for a console is that it helps honest people remain honest. The downside is that it won't deter a thief who cares nothing about the damage inflicted by breaking in.

While stationed in Italy I had a roadster. I never locked the doors, trunk or glove box to avoid damage by the thieves which would inevitably cut the top to gain entry and jimmy the trunk or glove box to steal the contents. I often returned from dinner out to find the trunk and glove box open.
