Hello - I'm new to the forum and may buy a new 170 Montauk. I understand there is little room for negotiating on new Boston Whaler boats in the range I'm looking for, but I want to know if I should expect any consideration for a 2015 instead of a 2016 model. I don't believe there are any major differences in features. The dealers in my area seem to have both model years available all ne. Any input would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for you help in advance.

I certainly would not expect to pay the first year of depreciation on a 2015 170 Montauk that has been sitting on a dealer's lot for as long as year. Perhaps the Boston Whaler market is so strong that a dealer won't negotiate a discount on a boat he is anxious to clear out of his inventory, but I doubt it. If the market is that strong why is a 2015 model unsold?

If your local dealer won't negotiate, shop around. Even on a current model year boat I would expect a fair bit of negotiating, but there should be a pretty steep discount on a left-over model from last year.

If they won't negotiate, there are plenty of new boats out there that have only been used for a season or two. Often these boats are not only cheaper but better equipped. The price on these used boats is a good indication of what a new boat will be worth in 12 to 18 months, so keep that in mind if a dealer wants you to pay full MSRP.
