[Moderator's note: the TOPIC line of the thread has been changed to actually reflect what the original inquiry was really asking for information about: how to stop the water in the baitwell in the RPS on a 1999 160 DAUNTLESS from just immediately draining out and if there were supposed to be a plug.]

Q1: how is water [supposed to drain] from the [baitwell in the reversible pilot seat] on a 1999 DAUNTLESS 160?

Q2: is there supposed to be a drain plug in the bottom of the live well on a 1999 DAUNTLESS 160?

On my 1999 DAUNTLESS 160 there is no plug in the bottom of the live well.

I am not sure how water is [intended to be] drained from the live well.

It is under the capt seat [and was] factory installed.

Hey Cool Hand Hombre: thanks for clarifying that the live well you were asking about is built into what is properly called the REVERSIBLE PILOT SEAT and was installed at the factory [and please note that Boston Whaler calls this a baitwell not a live well, so hereafter I will refer to it as a baitwell].

I was asking for clarification because I had looked at several assembly drawings available from Boston Whaler for a 1999 160 DAUNTLESS, but I did not see any provision in the hull or cockpit for a live well. And, as I suspected, having the BAITWELL in the REVERSIBLE PILOT SEAT was an option, not a standard feature.

Now that I see details of the baitwell in the original drawings, I think the meaning you were trying to convey is that the baitwell would immediately drain all the water out if there were no standpipe because the drain hole at the bottom of the baitwell would be open all the time. And that is why you were asking about a plug for the drain.

Many original Boston Whaler drawings that show the construction of their boats in exquisite detail are available for public access to view and to download from the Boston Whaler website at WHALER.COM. You can begin a search for information about a specific YEAR, specific FAMILY, specific MODEL and specific TYPE drawing from

where you can scroll down toward the bottom of the page and enter the search arguments into a form. For example, entering 1999 DAUNTLESS 160 DIAGRAMS produces links to 12 drawings.

Now that I know this baitwell is part of the reversible pilot seat, then you can view the drawing for 1999 - 160 DAUNTLESS REVERSIBLE PILOT SEAT ASSEMBLY and you can see the details of the baitwell.

The missing STANDPIPE is noted as part of CALLOUT 8*, which also includes a drain fitting in the bottom of the bait well tank, and the asterisk refers refers to a comment that notes that parts with an asterisk on that drawing were ONLY included if the "FISHING PACKAGE" or the "LIVEWELL" options were purchased.

Then if you download the drawing 1999 - 160 DAUNTLESS REVERSIBLE PILOT SEAT ASSEMBLY PARTS LIST, you can get the Boston Whaler part number for CALLOUT 8:

8 - DRAIN, BAITWELL, 1" ELBOW w/STANDPIPE (PN)1041847

If you are missing the standpipe, you probably will not have the screen that fits on top of the standpipe. That is CALLOUT 9 and the part number is

9 - DRAIN, SCREEN ONLY 7/8" x 12" (PN) 1043348

I suspect that the missing standpipe might be threaded so it fits into the drain, if the existing drain in your baitwell has such thread. If there are no threads in the drain fitting, then the standpipe might just be a press-fit into the drain. If just a press-fit you could probably make your own standpipe. If you need threads on the standpipe, maybe a local plumber could make one for you. Otherwise you might have to buy the standpipe as part of the drain, which could be more expensive.
