I would like to add a fuel-water separator filter to my 2004 220 Dauntless.

I don't see a good place to mount the filter,

ONLY FOR READERS WHO have a fuel-water separator filter installed on their 220 Dauntless: where is it mounted?

I don’t think a c.2004 boat would have a factory-installed engine and associated fuel rigging.

In looking at the drawings at Bostonwhaler.com for your year and model, I would suggest inside the splashwell access panel. A fuel bulb should be installed between the filter and engine.

(EDIT) If the boat has a Verado engine, I would double check with a certified Verado service manager if a separator installation is acceptable. Don't accept the opinion from anyone who is not factory certified.

There was a period of time when Mercury was very particular as to the engine's rigging.

I forgot to mention that the boat has a Mercury 225 FourStroke outboard.

I am wrong on that point: in 2004 Boston Whaler was delivering boats with a factory-installed engine, and the 225-HP FOURSTROKE was an option on the 220 DAUNTLESS. On that basis, if the boat does not have a fuel-water separator filter, then Boston Whaler and Mercury probably didn't think it needed one. Sounds like finding a good location for the filter will be up to the installer.

Generally a fuel-filter should be on the SUCTION side of the fuel pump and primer bulb.
