Q1: what is your recommendation for a propeller to begin propeller testing for a 1985 OUTRAGE 18 with a 1989 Evinrude V4 120-HP engine?

Q2: from what vendor should I buy a new propeller?

Start propeller testing with a three-bladed propeller with appropriate diameter for the propeller aperture and appropriate hub diameter and appropriate number of splines on the propeller shaft with a pitch of 17. You can try an aluminum propeller for a start, or you can upgrade to a steel propeller if the cost is tolerable for you.

To elicit a better recommendation, give more information. See the article at the top of the forum listing to see what information is needed from you.

Try to work with a local Evinrude dealer. A good Evinrude dealer will have an inventory of test propellers that he will loan you for testing (with a deposit). Or a dealer may have some used propellers.

I am unable to find the gear ratio for that model of engine.

Based on reviewing other engines with that hull, I think a 13x19 or 20" BPR Viper or a Powertech SCD 13x19 would be a good start.

For the tough prop selection cases I deal, I consult with a few specialty prop shops who know Whaler hulls. Call one of them. Mention I referred you.

Ken is one of the very few that will take back a prop for a small restock fee. Almost all other dealers do not do this anymore.
