Q1: what might have been the purpose of two 12-AWG (or larger) conductors on a 1986 MONTAUK 17 that run between the console, through the rigging tunnel, and are connected to a circuit breaker mounted on the cockpit inwale at the Port stern quarter?

Nota bene: the location of the battery is now in the console.

I am restoring a "barn find" 1986 MONTAUK 17. I am in the final states of reworking the boat electrical wiring.

Based on your narrative description, the most reasonable inference regarding the 12-AWG or larger conductors that run from the stern Port quarter to the console via the rigging tunnel and were protected by a circuit breaker mounted at the stern port inwale is those conductors created an over-current protected feed from the boat battery to a power distribution panel in the console.

A circuit like that would have been typical for the OEM condition of the boat as build by Boston Whaler. If the boat battery was moved to the console, that circuit would no longer be needed.
