Has anyone had the opportunity to build a cover for their v berth? I need some more sleeping space. I have a 1983 22' Revenge Cuddy and the port and starboard storage lockers have a notch toward the front that possible could have been a pivot point to flip up the cover. There is nothing in the rear other than the step for support. I did a search and none of the pics showed any detail. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello John, You could always get a full canvas set and put a air mattress on the deck of the boat. Good luck

JohnM -

I have a filler piece on my 1990 Revenge 22 WT. It was made by the previous owner out of 3/4" plywood and heavily varnished. He also made a foam insert to make the cushions even. We've slept three on it. Getting to the portable head is a pain in this configuration. When not in use, we slide it all the way forward . Not perfect, but its worked for 7 years.

John,
The previous owner of my Outrage 22 Cuddy made a filler that is similar to JimP's, but without the nice varnish job. It is large and awkward to move around, and it's in the way when the cuddy is not used for sleeping. I plan to build a new one, but make it sectional (2 or 3 pieces that will latch togeter) so it can be more easily stored and removed. A sectional filler would fit in my dock box, where a solid one will not. The notch you are referring to holds the convertable table/filler that was made by Whaler. When in the down position, it hides the porta potty, and extends the berth. In the up position, it's reversed and set in the notch to act as a small table.

A photo of the filler in the down position is shown on the following link:

Is your boat the Revenge Cuddy with the low curved windsheild and rounded cabin top, or is it the V22 Revenge model with the tall split windshield? The cuddy on the V22 is longer, although the bunks and locker covers are just about the same for both boats. The cabin on the Outrage Cuddy that I have is essentially the same as the Revenge Cuddy. Since this cuddy is shorter, I think the otherwise elegant Whaler filler/table would be inconvenient because the footwell of the cuddy would be completely covered when it was intalled in the low position, making it difficult to get in and out to get stored items, use the head, etc.

Does anyone have drawings or detailed photos of the Revenge WT or V22 Revenge style filler/table? I'm wondering if this design might be modified to work better in the smaller Outrage Cuddy/Revenge Cuddy cabins.

I made my own filler for the space between the berths in the cabin of my REVENGE 20. It also fits perfectly in a REVENGE 22. The filler allows the entire cabin to be turned into a large berth, about a Queen-size equivalent. It is much more comfortable for sleeping.

The filler is supported in three places:

--the forward, narrow end rests on the laminate surface of the deck

--the wide, aft end rests on the laminated suface of the deck just at the
cabin bulkhead, touching only at the corners.

The filler is made from 1/2-inch plywood. Along the outer edges I laminated a second thickness of plywood about 3-inches wide on the lower side. This stops short at the front but continues all the way to the rear. This helps level out the filler as the two supporting surfaces are at different heights. Across the back edge of the filler there is a 1 x 2 Oak board (which has been tapered slightly) which is mounted to the top surface. This provides a beam to help support the span, and it also retains the cushion. This is fastened with about eight screws. Foam rubber pads made from old mouse pads provide a cushioned rest for the corners of the filler on the laminated deck at the aft corners.

About mid way in the filler a second thickness of plywood is laminated across as a beam to provide more support for the span.

We made a cardboard pattern, my wife took it to a sewing/upholstery store, and they cut a foam cushion to match.

It makes a very comfortable bed. We threw away the Porta-Potti years ago. Who wants to sleep in the head?

I am no carpenter. A real carpenter made this for me one night at work in the scene shop. Took him about 15 minutes! He cut all the wood, and I took it home and laminated it together with WEST System epoxy resin. We've probably slept on this for 25-30 nights in comfort.

Somewhere I have all the dimensions and a sketch.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, Andy it is a Revenge cuddy with the low curved windshield and it is a rather small cuddy. The idea I had was very comparable to jimh. I've been using the v berth for storage of a cooler full of boat stuff, waterproof tool box and my batteries have been moved into the under berth, after berth, or whatever you want to call it and been covering the cooler with floatable life preservers and it is ok but would like to conceal it somewhat and make a more durable platform for those who want to take a nap when fishing times are slow. It is a great storage area and room for one who is tired but it would be great to be able to roll around a bit and possibly fit my spouse if she would like to accompany me one one of my excursions!
