This article presents a table of specifications for outboard engines currently (c.2002) in production and available for sale in the United States in the horsepower range of 130 to 250 HP. Engines of this size are popular for use in repowering Boston Whaler boats in two areas of application. For single-engine power, these engines are suitable for the 18-foot and larger hulls (and even some of the 16-foot models of the newer AccuTrack hulls which generally are heavier than the classics). For dual power, these engines are suitable for hulls in the 22-27 foot range, i.e., hulls rated for a maximum of 300-600 HP.

The table presents engines organized by manufacturer and by design. Classic 2-stroke designs are listed first, followed by low-emission 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. Specifications and pricing are as listed in recent magazines or catalogues. Prices represent the "base" price, but it is not known if the prices are exactly comparable. In some cases there may be additional charges for necessary accessories like propellers, gauges, and remote controls. It is best to get a precise quotation from a dealer as to exactly what is included in any engine "package." The number of cylinders is noted, as is the block layout. Unless denoted by a "V" all engines are in-line cylinder design. Displacement is given in cubic-inches. Weight is the dry weight in pounds.
