Hi Wavers,
What is the suggested way to secure the front console rod holders on a 1990 Outrage 19 with the newer style holes molded into the console (no wood mount)? They are all pretty loose. I don't see any way to secure them underneath since it's just open space.
I was thinking of using life-calk or something similar, but there really isn't much surface area there for the caulk to hold onto. Maybe it doesn't matter since these rod holders are never under load.
Thank you,
Jarred

I have the same console.
What does the inside front wall of your console look like?

Hey Phil,
The inside front wall is what looks to be some sort of plastic with three holes cut into it for access to the bolts that hold the front of console backrest. I think I see where you're going with this.
I found a picture that shows part of the front wall where you can see two of the three holes for cushion bolts.
Thanks,
Jarred

Re: 1990 Outrage 19 - Front console rod holders
Each of the rod holders on my console have a screw in the forward face, 4/5 of the way down, into the back of the front wall. They are not the 3 screws you see below the backrest cushion on the front outside wall.
If you shine a light down the rod holder, you can see the screw.
The "front" wall of the inside console is actually a false wall that separates the interior console from the rod holders.
Both the top and bottom of the wall are bent and are attached to the underside of the console floor and the floor of the glovebox
Here is a drawing.

Hi Phil,
So the rod holders are secured by screws into the back of the actual front wall of the console and to fix this I'll need to remove the false wall from the interior of the console and add new screws to them?
I really appreciate the info. I'm thinking that this is going to be a next winter thing, since I hope to pull the console and replace the plywood inside the console anyway. And...while I have the console up I'm going to probably pull the deck and assess the condition of the gas tank and the foam around it.
Thanks again,
Jarred

Re: 1990 Outrage 19 - Front console rod holders
I suppose you can add a bead of sealant, not adhesive, under the lip of the rod holder. That will keep it from moving.
I would use Life Caulk. For a close color match, OSI Quad #450.
