1985 SPORT 15 internal hull drain replacement

Postby JMaav » Fri May 23, 2025 11:49 am

I am trying to replace the fitting for the internal hull drainage on 1985 SUPER SPORT 15. I see no way to flare the inside without cutting a hole in the rear deck of the boat. Am I correct?

Q2: by the phrase “internal hull drainage” do you mean the drain in the aft cockpit centerline deck sump that drains the sump through the hull to the sea?

If so, that drain is normally implemented using a brass tube. In the manufacture of the boat, the drain was installed AFTER the Unibond hull was created. This means that the drain must NOT require that some sort of new opening must be made in the hull to install a replacement drain.

Read the FAQ about brass drain tube replacement at

Generally it should be possible to flare one end of a replacement brass tube before inserting the replacement tube into the drain passage in the hull through the interior foam. The other end, not yet flared, will then be flared with the tube in place. Exactly how to accomplish the flaring and whether a flaring tool can be used will depend on the particulars of the drain being replaced, how much room is available, and your ingenuity.
