Hi guys. I'm on the home straight for my total refurbishment of [a Boston Whaler TEMPTATION 2500] boat. Nothing was left in the boat--nothing. I've hung the [twin Mercury 225-HP FOURSTROKE VERADO] engines, and I amjust getting ready to rig them. I spoke with the guys at Boston Whaler who worked on the drive about hanging the 225-HP VERADO FOURSTROKE engine. They told me to go ahead with the installation.
[What is an appropriate] propeller size? I'm thinking 21 pitch.
Boston Whaler told me that bilge pumps are not installed and to leave the plugs out. Many thanks--Billybhoy

Regarding how to handle the plugs for the through-hull drains, see the owner's manual:

Many thanks. That's what the whaler boys told me. No bilge pump and leave them out.
Re: Temptation 2500, Twin 225-HP FOURSTROKE VERADO
That is not my interpretation. As far as I can tell, if you have a full-transom boat, or what they call a SEA DRIVE option in the owner's manual, the boat will have a sump pump. And you leave the through hull drains plugged because you don't want the pump to run continually.
I don't quite understand how you got a completely different interpretation from the owner's manual.

Re: Temptation 2500, Twin 225-HP FOURSTROKE VERADO
Guys need a little help. The engines are rigged and boat 95-percent complete. Suggest the propellers for the two VERADO 225-HP engines.
I've used a few of the calculators. I have also seen posts that recommend a 21 pitch. [Should I use a 21-pitch] as opposed to [Deleted tabular data that was a mess. Please clean this up if you expect readers to wade through it--jimh]

Re: Temptation 2500, Twin 225-HP FOURSTROKE VERADO
It is hard to select a propeller for a twin engine boat that has been re-powered in a manner that no one else has ever done. Pick a propeller set, try them, and post the results of your testing. It is impossible that anyone can give you first-hand experience about this because no one has ever re-powered a TEMPTATION 2500 with twin VERADO 225-HP engine before.
What is the full-throttle boat speed you expect from the twin VERADO 225-HP engines on the Boston Whaler TEMPTATION 2500? Assume that value, and then work backwards to the propeller pitch using a propeller calculator.
You can rule out using aluminum propellers. With 225-HP engines, I doubt an aluminum propeller would ever become the best option. You should delete them from your tablular listing when you clean it up with an edit. Why would you spend about $30,000 on engines and then fit $100 propellers on them? That makes no sense to me.
If you want the most modern propeller design, choose the Mercury ENERTIA ECO propeller. It was designed specifically for the VERADO to produce the best combination of speed and fuel economy. That's what I'd start with. Get a vendor who will let you sea trial to find the best pitch. I think the ENERTIA ECO propellers are available in one-inch pitch increments to allow you to really dial-in the pitch. A vendor who wants to sell a $1,200 pair of propellers ought to be willing to let you test a few. if not, find a new vendor.

Re: Temptation 2500, Twin 225-HP FOURSTROKE VERADO
Look for some prior reports of a 25-foot Whaler Drive boat with similar horsepower to get an idea of anticipated top speed. My guess is a TEMPTATION 2500 with 450-HP should get to 55-MPH or more. My guess is an extrapolation of the performance of another hull with Whaler Drive whose speed and horsepower are known to me.
Take 55-MPH to the propeller calculator, along with the gear ratio of your engines, and the recommended full-throttle engine speed at the upper end of the range. Plug in a SLIP figure of 10, and a boat speed of 55-MPH. The calculator will give you a pitch estimate. Start with that pitch or as close as you can get to it with the propeller family you choose.
EXAMPLE:
RPM = 6000
RATIO = 1.85
PITCH = to be calculated
SLIP = 10
MPH = 55
The propeller calculator returns a pitch calculation of 19.9-inch. That suggests a propeller pitch of 20-inch. ENERTIA ECO is available in both 19 and 20 pitch.
If you think the engines can turn 21-pitch propellers to 6,000-RPM, you might gain 3-MPH in boat speed, hitting 58-MPH. There is no way to determine this without testing. That's why you need to get the propellers on the basis of being able to return them and test a different pitch.

As a fellow Temptation owner, who also did a near complete rehabilitation and re-power, I'd love to see pictures of the finished product.

I searched the old forums and did not see many recommended props for the Verado 225.
I (and many others) recommend consulting Ken @ Prop Gods. He has a lot of experience selecting props for Verado motors.

Hi. I'm just finishing off a Temptation 2500 complete refurb. Installed twin 225 Verados. Let me know if you want to have an info. Running at 50+ mph [not knots]. Just looking at trim tabs. Anyway I have props installed. They seem good. I can post size tomorrow.

Re: Temptation 2500, Twin 225-HP FOURSTROKE VERADO
Re delay in replying: I got a bit maxed-out and frustrated with the lack of Mercury support on Smith Lake to initialize engines. All done and dusted now. Down to [cabin] lights, trim tabs to help hull mangement, and docking lights. The seat re-design was a big hit and gives me room for a lot more relaxing and seating.
Thanks for your support and an excellent source of encouragement. I really like the [Temptation boat].
A few contacts from suppliers that are worth mentioning:
--Jasco Marine of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee initialized the engines--superb job.
--I installed the Verado enginess myself with full digital system and VesselView--superb system.
--I installed the steering system as well as everything else.
--Bronson at Jasco sorted out a plethora of my small errors and is worth a mention.
--the engineer support in Mercury Customer Support were truly superb--loads of patience and advice.

To get back to your initial inquiry on the proper propeller, please let us know the propeller you have selected and the performance it has produced.
It's great the seat design was successful, but you never mentioned anything about it in this thread. You might consider starting a thread in REPAIRS and MODIFICATIONS in which you talk about the original seats, the seats you designed, and show us what you were able to achieve. I am sure more readers will be interested to see those results, too.

Re: Temptation 2500, Twin 225-HP FOURSTROKE VERADO
Hey Jim. I will do. I'll start a thread and post the pics. I'll also post the prop info as well. The speed is low 50's; smooth but unstable so adding trim pads.
Thanks

Re: Temptation 2500, Twin 225-HP FOURSTROKE VERADO
It would be wise to revisit engine mounting height before adding trim tabs [or pads]. If you have the engines mounted as low as possible it will encourage porposing.
Where are the engine anti-cav plates (vertically) in relation to the hull, not the Whalerdrive? It is recommended you mount the motors 3 or 4 holes up. What brand and size prop are you using? What is your WOT rpm's?
Based on TransAm's numbers for twin 225 hp, WOT of 56 mph is expected.
